The Antagonist

In a story there must be antagonist for the story to balance. This is the case with any story even in our mythology.

Here is scene of the Theyyam performing on fire and the drama enhanced through challenging the fire. Theyyam cross the adversity (fire) and this person kindling the fire is the antagonist!
These particularly hard to capture due high dynamic range of the scene and actio

The Drama

If there is theatre there is story and screen play.  The boy is growing the fire to create drama when Theyyam passes through it. the fire pit unbelievably hot, to approach and feed the fire, one must be highly motivated. 

The scene also has the dry coconut leaves that used in fire all around reflected from the light. They appear as snakes making way towards the fire.

Fire Dance!

Theyyam dancing around the fire after fearless episodes of running through it. These are trance stages of the performance in Theyyam art form. There is the belief in transcendence of God in these artists.

It’s a show of talent for artist and competitive spirit among host families to draw crowd for the event. More dramatic  more crowd.
